Itinerary

Chichén Itzá

A must to visit in first place, a modern world wonder, human heritage by UNESCO, a unique place with its famous temple of Kukulkán, that is a declivitous pyramid. It has exquisite works in stone dedicated to the feathered serpent, who was a very important deity in Mayan culture and civilization.

Our guide will explain us the advanced astronomical knowledges of Mayan culture, the rise and fall of Kukulkán in winter solstice and autumn equinox, Mayan society and the government of this civilization.

We’ll also visit the warriors temple, decorated with warlike images and the Chac Mool sculpture, god of rain. We’ll see closer the observatory and the holy cenote, where the guide will explain us how the ceremonies were. We’ll follow until the extraordinary ball game central field, where we will understand everything about this game.

Cenote and Oxman estate

Our next stop is in the antique and famous henequen estate of Oxman. Decorated with orange and blue tones, it comes from 1746 and has a beautiful blue cenote of crystalline waters, where you can swim, refresh and jump in its center.

This is the better cenote in Valladolid, Yucatán. What you will see will be memorable. The view in the cenote, from the water or below it, it becomes a living postcard due to its long roots of jungle trees and sun light passing through the crystalline waters.

However, the most memorable experience for your senses is to swim in a holy space for the Mayas. They said this space purified the soul.

San Bernardino convent in Valladolid

After swimming, we’ll go to the peaceful and beautiful city of Valladolid, Yucatán. We’ll visit a religious building where the indigenous people were ‘educated’ to change its religious beliefs, from polytheism to catholic monotheism. Our guide will explain this process of cultural transition and syncretism, result of two civilizations contributions. A beautiful building that has a church, a chapel, a convent, murals, atrium and vegetable plot. Impossible not to visit.

San Servacio church and Valladolid central park

We’ll follow our tour until the heart of Valladolid. We’ll walk through a place that centuries ago was a pyramid base and today is the barrack square or central park, that is surrounded by colonial edifices. It has the typical confident chairs of Yucatán and has a lot of trees.

Inside this big garden with geometrical strokes, in the center, we’ll see the Mestiza Fountain, with a sculpture in homage to the woman of Yucatán that speaks Mayan, wears huipil and is part of the Mayan and Spanish cultural fusion.

We’ll walk to the San Servacio church, that was built with the stones of the old pyramid. Our guide will explain you the relationship of this population with the race war and the story of the main entrance change due the crime of mayors in XVIII century.

The tour ends taking you back to your hotel.
